Are you looking for a little more adventure on your next Benalmádena Holiday? How about trying a more active sport like Stand Up Paddle, Surf or Longboard Skate?

Our friends at ‘La Mar de Bien’, a local surf club and school, have put together a fun-packed list of activities you can try next time you visit Sunset Beach Club. You can take lessons or just hire the material and head off yourself. Read on to see all the activities available and prices for lessons and equipment hire.

And if you’ve got kids, you might be interested in the Summer School they have planned for June, July and August. Available in Spanish or English, these week-long summer camps are available from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm each day and are full of exciting activities and workshops which will keep your kids busy and entertained for hours.

So, what do they offer?

If you’ve never tried Stand Up Paddle, Surfing or Longboard Skate, it’s probably a good idea to take a quick lesson to get the feel for it before heading out to sea on your own. Here’s a list of the lessons and prices for each.

• Paddle Surf – 2-hour lesson: €28 (includes board and paddle rental, wetsuit or lycra top and insurance).
• Surf – 2-hour lesson: €28 (includes board rental, wetsuit or lycra top and insurance).
• Longboard Skate – 1 hour and 30-minute lesson: €25 (includes longboard rental, protections and insurance).

You can also buy a 5-lesson voucher which includes 10 hours of surf, paddle surf or longboard skate lessons for just €125.

Another popular option is their 8-hour ‘Sliding Sports’ course which includes the following:

• 2 hours of theory on each of the 3 sports including specific techniques and interpreting weather conditions.
• 2 hours of Surf
• 2 hours of Paddle Surf
• 2 hours of Longboard skate

If you prefer to just rent out the equipment without the lessons, these are the rental prices:

The Summer School

This summer, ‘La Mar de Bien’ will be offering a summer school for kids. If you’re here on holiday and are looking for fun activities for your kids (and a little R&R time for yourselves) this may be the perfect option for you. They offer the option of running the activities in Spanish or English.

The school offers week long courses (5 days) which include eight proposed activities, many of which are educational in nature (see below). The day starts at 9:00am and ends at 2:00pm with an option of including lunch too (lunch is provided by our Oasis Restaurant 😊).

 Here’s a quick breakdown of the daily activities to give you an idea of what to expect.

Day 1

Activity 1 – An introduction to water sports which includes practicing in the water with the equipment and materials to be used during the week.

Workshop 1 – Introduction to water sports material (how to wax boards, set up fins, how to put on/take off wetsuits and lots more).

Day 2

Activity 2 – An introduction to Stand-up Paddle. Includes explanation of all the equipment used and a full lesson for beginners.

Workshop 2 – Board spray and repair. Learn spray and free painting techniques to use on boards and how to repair surfboards using solarez and sand paper.

Day 3

Activity 3 – Gymkhana (Snorkeling, beach games and standup paddle)

Workshop 3 – A short introduction to the world of fishing, including and explanation of the types of rod and their use, knots and common baits used to catch fish from the beach.

Day 4

Activity 4 – Introduction to Longboard Skate. Includes lesson for beginners and all equipment needed (board, protection, etc.).

Workshop 4 – Aquatic and Beach Games. (Beach volleyball, games with water balloons, and more).

Day 5

Activity 5 – Competition Day!!! Lots of fun competitions including all the water sports undertaken during the week as well as games in the sand and sea. Some of the prizes up for grabs include, the surfer with most style or the surfer with the best wipeout!

Prices

1 week: €130 per child (includes use of all materials)

2 weeks: €240 per child

One month: €450 per child

Lunch: €7 per child/day

The summer school is available from 5^th June to 25^th August 2017.

A few more things to keep in mind:

• Lessons run with a minimum of 3 people and maximum of 8.
• All the gear and equipment is included in the lessons. (No discount for bringing your own).
• Due to weather conditions, the school reserves the right to cancel lessons and reschedule for another date.
• You must book lessons at least 2 days in advance.
• To cancel a lesson you must contact the school one day in advance in order to get a refund or change the date of the lesson.
