We’re just a few days away from the start of Carnival Season and most towns and cities on the Costa del Sol (Including Benalmadena) are gearing up for a week of fun and entertainment.
Although the Carnival is celebrated all over Andalucia – The Cadiz Carnival is probably the most famous – for the purpose of this article, we’re going to focus on the Málaga Carnival; only 25 minutes from our hotel and easily accessible, it’s a ‘must visit’ if you are planning a trip to the Costa del Sol in February.
We’re lucky enough to enjoy mild winters and this luxury allows the city of Málaga to live one of its most colourful, multicultural and spontaneous festivities of the year: The Carnival.
With hundreds of activities and events taking place during the week-long (sometimes a little longer) festivities, you’re guaranteed to have a ball!
If you’re planning a holiday in Benalmadena and are looking for a cheap and easy way to get around town and explore your favourite tourist attractions, look no further; this quick guide to Benalmadena Buses will become your trusted travel companion!
Located just 20 minutes from Málaga airport, with a privileged location overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and an extensive range of services and tourist attractions, Benalmadena is the perfect base from which to explore the Costa del Sol.
You’ve probably seen them in supermarkets or in patisserie windows but have never actually wondered what they were? The “Roscón de Reyes” (Kings Cake) is a traditional cake which is consumed by the Spanish on – and around – 3 Kings day (6th January). (more…)
If you’re a regular visitor to Benalmádena, spend long periods of time here over the winter months and use public transport regularly when you are here, there’s a fantastic way to do so at significantly reduced rates… buy a Travel Card!
Designed for locals and visitors who travel frequently, the cheaper fares available through these Travel Cards and their ease of use make it great companion on your local travels exploring Benalmádena and Málaga. To give you an example, a local bus fare which usually costs 1.55€ will only cost you 0.40€… that’s an impressive discount! If you plan on using the bus regularly, the savings can be considerable. We all know Benalmadena is a popular holiday destination in the high-season Spring and Summer months. However, this gorgeous part of Spain is also fantastic to visit in the quieter Winter months.
We’ve put together a list of great things you can do when you visit Benalmadena in December and January. Whilst we’ve recommended things in the Benalmadena area, we have also ventured a little further afield with some must-do’s in neighbouring Malaga city, especially over the Christmas period… you can thank us later!
We can finally enjoy ice skating in Benalmadena again!
At the end of October, the new Palacio de Deportes (former Ice Club) opened to the public with great facilities, including a magnificent 600 square metre ice rink.
It’s the only ice rink in Andalusia and will undoubtedly become a major visitor attraction for Benalmadena as it offers a unique sporting activity which will be available all year round.
Those in charge of the ‘new’ ice rink want to expand free-skating sessions with other activities such as school trips and birthday parties.
