Photos of the Sunset Beach Club Staff Christmas Party (2012)

Reception tribute to Chicago

The Reception team's tribute to 'Chicago'

Last wednesday the staff at Sunset Beach Club celebrated their Christmas Party.

The theme this year was ‘Las Vegas’ and there were some great fancy dress costumes on parade (see photos below), but perhaps the funniest and most entertaining part of the evening was the talent show. Colleagues from various departments prepared a short show and performed in front of everyone on the stage of the Moonlight Bar; and what a performance… they all did brilliantly… great costumes, great choreography and all round great fun!

The paparazzi were there to take photos throughout the night and below we’ve added the first lot we’ve managed to get our hands on… more to come!

Take a peek and see if you can recognize anyone 🙂

Mijas Pueblo Gets a Makeover

Mijas Flower potsThe town of Mijas is famous for its whitewashed buildings, picturesque setting overlooking the Coast and, of course, its donkeys! These distinctive attributes have made this beautiful town a favourite destination for tourists who visit the Costa del Sol and wish to experience the charm and beauty of a traditional SpanishVillage.

Well, things are about to get even more traditional as the Town Hall has just released plans to make Mijas even more beautiful by introducing hanging plant pots to the exterior of buildings along 26 of the streets in the town’s historic centre.

The installing of plant pots in the exterior of buildings is very traditional in certain areas of Andalucia; the famous patios of Cordoba are a perfect example. This new ‘makeover’ is sure to be a big hit amongst tourists and locals and will  help to maintain Mijas’ position as ‘must-visit’ destination for all who travel to the Costa del Sol.

The pots will be painted in vivid blues and greens which against the whitewashed walls of the buildings will represent the colours of the Mijas Flag. At the moment there are approximately 400 hooks installed for holding the plant pots but this figure will soon be increased to 1000, an impressive number for such a small town!

According to the towns planning councillor, Manuel Navarro, the plant pots will be filled with geraniums, ferns, adelfas and other aromatic species such as rosemary and lavender which will undoubtedly create some spectacular photo opportunities, not to mention the incredible scents and aromas 🙂

There is no doubt that this new initiative is set to reinforce Mijas’ position and reputation as a true Andalusian White Village. We hope you’ll get a chance to head up into the hills and see this new ‘makeover’ for yourselves!

Get Your Trainers on for the 30th Edition of the Benalmadena ‘Turkey Race’

Carrera del Pavo - Turkey Race in BenalmadenaNext Sunday the 16th December 2012, Arroyo de la Miel will celebrate its 30th ‘Carrera Urbana del Pavo’ (literally translated as The Urban Turkey Race!). This fun event was started 30 years ago as a way to foment running amongst the Benalmadena population, allowing both visitors and locals the opportunity to discover the pleasures of running.

The ‘Carrera del Pavo’ is a massively popular event – last year there were 1900 participants – and attracts runners of all ages; this year there will be 22 different categories, 11 for men and another 11 for women. The organisers will also be handing out lots of prizes including one for each of the first 5 participants (in each category) to cross the finish line.

The race consists of a 4.5 km urban run through the streets of Arroyo de la Miel. Starting off at the ‘Polideportivo Arroyo de la Miel’ at 11am participants will make their way through this urban race course and head for the finish line at the feria ground next to Paloma Park. Everyone is welcome to enter; however, entries must be received by the 14th December due to the use of a new computer system this year which will read bar codes on each participant as they cross the finish line.

We must admit that we were curious as to why they called it the ‘Turkey Race’… apparently, when this traditional race was first held 30 years ago, it involved running after a live turkey and the winner got to take it home! Nowadays the winners still get a turkey as a prize… just that now, its frozen! 🙂

From Sunset Beach Club we’d like to wish all the participants the best of luck!
