Simba the lion cub
A few weeks ago I spotted an interesting photo on a friend’s Facebook page; she was petting a lion cub!!! Turns out the picture was taken at ‘Zoo de Castellar’ a very special place which serves as a rescue centre for all sorts of animals.
Started as a private animal sanctuary way back in 1998, it actually opened to the public in 2002; this has to be one of the Coast’s best kept secrets!
Of course, with two young children, we had to go and see what all the fuss was about. After a quick check on Google Maps, we prepared a pack lunch and set off, for what turned out to be, an amazing family day out. (more…)

Those of you who have visited Benalmadena will be familiar with the small ‘hop on, hop off’ tourist trains which ferry passengers around the Marina and the central area of Arroyo de la Miel. Well, in the next few weeks, the company that runs these trains will be introducing a new service taking tourists and visitors to Benalmadena Pueblo, located in the hills overlooking the coast.
If you’ve never been to Benalmadena Pueblo, this is the perfect opportunity to visit this stunning and picturesque village. The new tourist train service will leaves from the Alay Hotel (approx. 30 minutes walk from Sunset Beach Club) at 9:30am every morning. (more…)

An article in the Irish Independent last friday caught our eye. It seems that travel giant Thomas Cook plans to exit the Irish charter holiday market, a decision – which travel agents are warning – will affect consumers due to a shortage of supply in last minute holiday deals this summer.
Aer Lingus has already scheduled new flights this summer to several sunny destinations, including a flight from Shannon to Malaga; great news for many of our Sunset Beach Club guests who wont have to fly from Cork or Dublin. Expect the Irish carrier to search for further growth opportunities following the Thomas Cook announcement; hopefully with more flight options to Malaga 🙂 (more…)

The town of Mijas is probably one of the most popular tourist attractions on the Costa del Sol with thousands of weekly visitors. As from last Saturday, there’s another reason to add this charming town to your list of places to visit: The opening of the new Contemporary Art Centre (CACMijas: Centro de Arte Contemporáneo).
This new art gallery opened to the public with an impressive exhibition made up of 86 works from some of Spain’s greatest artists including, Picasso, Dalí and Miró. This wonderful collection actually goes by the name of “Picasso, amigos y contemporaneous” (Picasso, friends and contemporaries) and is made up of ceramics (43 pieces from Picasso himself and one of the most important collections in the world), lithographs and oil paintings.
