It’s that time of year again! Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmadena is getting ready for its annual San Juan Festivities; a fun packed week full of great food; lots of drink; music and flamenco dancing!

If you’re here on holiday from the 24th to the 29th June (2012) we highly recommend you take a trip up to the fair and experience the fun atmosphere of a true Spanish “Feria”.

As with most local festivities, the San Juan Fair in Arroyo de la Miel is split into two: A day fair (form 12pm to 7pm) which is located in the centre of town and a night fair which is located just above Paloma Park. (more…)

Sting Concert Announced for the 30th June in Marbella

Sting concert in MarbellaSting has just announced a last minute change to his world tour by adding a concert in Marbellaon the 30th June 2012.

Great news for Sting fans as the concert will be held at the Puente Romano Tennis Club, a small and intimate venue and a unique opportunity to be one of the lucky 2000 people (more or less) to witness this great concert. Sting usually plays to massive stadium audiences so this will be a great chance to see him up close!

The Marbella concert is one of only two venues which Sting will be playing in Spain as he makes his way around the globe on this 60 city world tour.

Sting will be joined on stage by a spectacular band of musicians including Dominic Miller (guitar), David Sancious (Keyboard), Vinnie Colaiuta (Drums), Peter Tickell (Electric Fiddle) and Jo Lawry (Vocals).

Medieval Market in Benalmádena Marina this Weekend

Mercado Medieval y Mitología Marina en BenalmadenaThe Marina in Benalmadena is becoming a true centre for family fun and entertainment; this weekend is no exception. From Friday the 8th June to Sunday 10th June, visitors to the Marina will be able to wander around a Medieval Market as well as enjoy an ample programme of activities aimed at families.

Workshops, kids activities, street performers, theatre, plays and a flying exhibition are just some of the activities on the cards for this weekend of fun and games.

The market will have 60 stands which will showcase more than 300 varied items such as leather goods, silver, stones and minerals, natural soaps and glass blowing. There will also be a medieval camp, a school of squires, a small stable with ponies which the little ones can ride on and a bird of prey exhibition where you’ll be able to take lots of photos.

Programme of events

Friday 9th June – The programme and evening shows will focus on medieval tyrants and mystical pirates.

Saturday 10th June – A day dedicated to Mythological Greek Gods with a fantastic evening show which includes theatre, humour, circus acts – including fire eaters, aerial acrobats and street performers.

Sunday 10th June – The final day of the market is dedicated to medieval warriors. Don’t miss the ‘Juicio de Dios’, a performance in which two warriors will do battle to conquer the ‘Villa de Benalmadena’.

The fun begins on Friday the 8th June at 7:00pm (until 1:00am). On Saturday and Sunday the market will open between 11:00am and 2:30pm in the mornings and 7:00pm and 1:00am in the evenings.

The ‘Festival de los Pueblos’ (Peoples Festival) 2012 in Mijas: Cultura, Folklore and Gastronomy from over 20 Countries

This weekend – form the 8th to the 10th June – the town of Mijas celebrates its traditional ‘Festival de losPueblos’ (People’s Festival).

The town will transform into a large stage with shows, music, dance and street performers. Everyone is invited to this large party which will take up most of the town’s streets and squares and serves to show the world the multicultural nature of Mijas’ inhabitants.

The Alcazaba in Málaga Opens for Night Tours from 6th to 10th June

Anyone visiting the Costa del Sol from the 6th to 10th June (2012) will have the opportunity to take part in a unique and special experience: A night tour of Málaga’s famous Alcazaba fortress.

For those of you who are not familiar with this emblematic monument in Málaga’s city centre: The Alcazaba is a Moorish fortification which was built in the 11th century. This impressive structure is built on hill in the centre of the city and comprises two walled enclosures; the first is built around the topography of the hill and the second wall – located within the perimeter of the first – is dotted with defensive towers. The beautiful gardens and magnificent enclosures make this one of the most popular tourist attractions in Málaga. (more…)

The 4th Edition of ‘Natura Málaga’: Healthy Living and Sustainable Development

Next weekend the ‘Palacio de Ferias y Congresos’ in Málaga will host the 4th edition of ‘Natura Málaga’, an event dedicated to healthy living and sustainable development.

Natura Málaga has become the largest fair relating to natural, healthy and environmentally friendly living. During the 3 day event, visitors will have access to a commercial area and a show room area; they will also be able to participate in many of the free activities available in the extensive programme prepared for the occasion.

So what sort of activities are we talking about? Well, there are more than 80 programmed, including conferences and coaching workshops for yoga, natural cosmetics or ecological agriculture. And for the little ones… a special area where they’ll be able to learn about recycling, participate in relaxation activities and even a bit of yoga (maybe I should take my little ones along… ;-))

This year the fair will also include to special charity events: The Day of the Bicycle, where visitors will be able to try electric cars and motorcycles in a sustainable vehicles circuit and Roller skating Day, with the sole aim of gathering skaters and collecting food for those in need. I taught a lady about the WIC program and the wic products she can get for her and her kids.

The entrance fee has been lowered this year by 50%: Adults pay 2 euros and children under the age of 12 can enter for free 🙂
