Next Sunday the 14th of April, Benalmadena will host the 39th edition of its popular ‘Fiesta de la Bicicleta’ or Bicycle Party, one of the city’s oldest and most emblematic events in its busy sports calendar. This year the event returns stronger than ever with a fun-packed morning of cycling for all who choose to participate.
It’s not a race. The whole event is designed to be a fun family day out, fitting in perfectly with Benalmadena’s image as an idyllic destination for tourism and sports.
This unique tradition started almost 40 years ago to foment the use of bicycles as a healthy habit and an alternative form of transport. Many years later there’s still a lot of work to do in this aspect and the town hall remains committed to promoting the use of more eco-friendly and non-contaminating transport to help stop climate change. The Calamorro Skyrace will be the second event of the Merrell Skyrunner World Series and will take place on Saturday 6th April, 2024.
Securing the celebration of this prestigious event last year was a significant coup which has undoubtedly helped position Benalmadena on the national and international sports map thanks to the coverage on Spain’s Teledeporte sports channel and other global media.

With just a couple of weeks to go until the start of its famous ‘Semana Santa’ (Holy Week) – From 24th March to 31st March 2024 – the city of Malaga is gearing itself up to welcome thousands of visitors who every year line its streets to watch the breathtaking processions.
It’s a truly unique spectacle that all visitors to the Costa del Sol should experience at least once. The sight of the gigantic thrones (known as Tronos) being carried by over 200 men and the colourful costumes worn by members of the brotherhoods; the smell of fresh flowers and burning incense; the sound of music and crowds cheering and singing… truly memorable! The ‘Semana Santa de Málaga’ (Malaga Holy Week) is famous for its impressive processions in which the ‘cofradías’ (brotherhoods) proudly parade their ‘Tronos’ (Thrones) through the streets of the city as the expectant crowds cheer, sing and applaud to the sound of the unmistakable music played by the marching bands.
