The Costa del Sol is predominantly known as a sun and beach destination; however, what many visitors don’t realise is that there are some amazing and beautiful locations to discover by travelling into the interior towns, villages and countryside.
Well, we’re happy to introduce a new excursion to our – already ample – list of great day trips on offer at our Leisure Desk: Introducing the new excursion from our new collaborating company, Parknatur. You’ll be taken on a unique trip which will allow you to discover the ‘other’ Andalucia; rest assured, it will seduce your senses!
Parknatur will be offering daily excursions (Monday to Friday) which will take you on a truly memorable adventure into the Biosphere Nature Reserve of the Sierra de las Nieves, approximately40 kminto the mountains. Here’s a brief summary of what you’ll get to see on this great day out:
The first stop is a visit to an orchard where the owner will explain how new forms of ecological cultivation and production methods are being developed. You’ll get to see how ecological olive oil is produced and – this is the best part – you’ll get to taste a selection of delicious olive oils!
Next stop is the beautiful town of Casarabonela. You’ll get to stroll through the town’s enchanting streets and see beautiful fountains and other distinguishable landmarks which have all been inspired and influenced by the town’s Moorish origins.
The visit to Casarabonela will conclude with a visit to a traditional olive oil mill where you’ll be able to chat with the actual owner, an elderly gentleman who used to work in the mill as a young man.
You’ll then be taken to a handicrafts school and workshop where students are taught the intricacies of producing ceramics, ironwork, woodwork and more. After touring the workshops and seeing some of the works on exhibition, it will then be time for lunch; a delicious menu prepared with homegrown ecologic products awaits you 🙂
The last stop on this fascinating and educational tour of the interior will take you to a family-run cheese factory. Here you’ll be able to witness the whole production, from the milking of the goats to the maturing process in cold chambers. You’ll see the more modern and technological cheese production process as well as the traditional handmade version. The best part is that everyone gets to taste the different types of cheeses and you even get one to take home!
Now, doesn’t that sound like a great way to spend a day? If you’d like more information about the excursion or, indeed, would like to book, please head over to our Leisure desk on the 6th floor of Sunset Beach Club where Annemie and Susanna will be more than happy to help 🙂
Don’t forget to let us know how you get on…
