If you enjoy a good and healthy walk when you visit Benalmadena on holiday, we’ve got some great little walking routes which you must try; no need to worry about your fitness levels as there is something for everyone!
Benalmadena is actually a member of the Spanish Healthy Cities Network (Red Española de Ciudades Saludables) and a couple of years ago the town hall decided to set up a 23 km walking route connecting the 3 main areas of the town, Benalmadena Costa, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena Pueblo (town).
There are six different routes ranging from 1.27 km to 8.11 km in length. As we mentioned earlier there is something for every level of fitness, from a leisurely stroll along the promenade to a more challenging walk up to the old town in the hills. The image above shows the different routes, the length of each route, the time it takes to walk it and even the calories you’ll burn! We’ve summarised each route for you below; however, if you’d like to download a copy you can do so HERE (It’s in Spanish but I’m sure you’ll still be able to use it :-)).
Route 1 – Benalmadena Pueblo
This route takes you from the Town Hall to the Buddhist Temple and back again. It’s a total of 3.74 km and should take approximately 50 minutes. I recommend you take your camera on this one as the views from the temple are spectacular!
Route 2 – Benalmadena Pueblo de Veracruz Park
You’ll make your way down for the town towards Arroyo de la Miel on this 2.62 km route which will take approximately 37 minutes and help you burn just over 200 calories!
Route 3 – Arroyo de la Miel (Circular)
This is the longest route (8.11km) and takes you on a circular tour of Arroyo de la Miel. It’ll take you about 1 hour and 50 minutes to complete and you’ll burn an impressive 672 calories 🙂
Route 4 – Casa de la Cultura to Cantarranas
This is the shortest route and at 1.27 km shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to complete. This one is right in the centre of town so you’ll probably get to do some window shopping too!
Route 5 – Benalmadena Costa
Another of the longer routes this one will take you along the promenade to the Marina and then back to town again. It’s 5.51 km and takes 1 hour and 14 minutes to complete. This is a favourite as it takes you along the promenade and through theMarina.
Route 6 –Bil Bil Castle to the Health Centre (Opposite Sunset Beach Club)
From the Bil Bil Castle to the Benalmadena Health Centre, this final route takes you right past Sunset Beach Club; it’s only 1.65 km and takes just over 20 minutes to complete.
Now you’ve got a good challenge on your hands the next time you visit Benalmadena. By all means enjoy the fabulous food and drink on offer – after all, you are on holiday – but take a little time to burn off those calories by trying out one of these fun walks around Benalmadena.

Hi Fergus,
I’m not sure where you could find a map but maybe the tourist office has one. I wrote another post on our blog outlining some more walking routes, some of which leave or go through the pueblo. Here’s the link to the post which I hope will be of help to you

I have recently move to Benalmadena Costa and seeking to join a regular health walking group. Would you be so kind if you could give me some information on how to get involved in joining a walking group. Many thanks. Deirdre
Hi Deirdre, welcome to Benalmadena! I’m afraid we don’t know of any health walking groups but you may want to ask in one of the local Facebook Groups like Benalmadena Social.
