Located just 20 minutes from Málaga airport, with a privileged location overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and an extensive range of services and tourist attractions, Benalmadena is the perfect base from which to explore the Costa del Sol.
A visit to this wonderful part of Spain offers travellers a fabulous selection of towns, attractions and other unique locations to explore. The easiest and most economical way to get to all these amazing places is by using the extensive bus network which communicates Benalmadena and its three main districts (Benalmádena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Costa) with the Coast’s main cities and towns.
The municipality of Benalmadena is integrated in Malaga’s Metropolitan Transport Consortium (Consorcio de Transporte Metropolitano del Area de Málaga) which means that you can use the local Travel Card on local buses, those that connect Benalmadena with other towns and cities and urban buses in Malaga City.
Are you looking for a hotel in Benalmadena? At Sunset Beach Club you’ll find comfortable apartment-style accommodation and 4* star facilities for a fantastic holiday. Visit www.sunsetbeachclub.com for more information!
To read all about this useful Travel Card please read this blog post which explains everything you need to know. These cards can be bought in local tobacconists (the closest is near the Bil-Bil Castle, just 5 minutes walk from the hotel) or at specific sales points for the local transport company. Here are some of the benefits of purchasing a travel card:
- It’s easy to use. You just have to swipe it past the machine which then emits your ticket. This will show the price of the journey, the remaining balance on the card (you need to charge it when you purchase it) and the time limit for changing buses.
- Personalisation of the travel card depending on the number of trips you plan to make (0, 1, 2 or 3 zones).
- An important discount on the price of a regular ticket (can be up to 40%), depending on the configuration at the time of purchase.
- It can be used by up to 15 people at a time.

If you’re on holiday, chances are you’ll want to know the best way to get to the main tourist attractions in the area… Here’s a list of the main attractions and the buses you’ll need to jump on to get there:
- To get to attractions located in Arroyo de la Miel and the surrounding areas: Selwo Marina, Paloma Park, and Benalmádena Cable Car, you can use the M-103 line which stops outside Sunset Beach Club. The following buses also go to the above attractions but the bus stop is located just in front of the windmill roundabout that leads up to Paloma Park: M-112, M-121, M-126.
- If you fancy taking a trip up to Benalmádena Pueblo to visit the Museo Precolombino, the Butterfly Park or the Buddhist Temple, take the M-103 (bus stops outside Sunset Beach Club) or the M-112, M-121, M-124 or M-126 (from the bus stop in front of windmill roundabout).
- To visit the Marina and Sea Life Aquarium, buses M-110 and M-120 will get you there in just a few minutes. (both stop outside Sunset Beach Club)
- Bioparc Zoo in Fuengirola is another popular attractions, especially if you have kids. Bus nº M-120 will take you to the centre of Fuengirola and then it’s just a short walk to Bioparc. (Please note that this bus stops on the opposite side of the road, just in front of the Best hotel)
- To go to Torremolinos and visit Aqualand Water Park or the Crocodile Park, you’ve got a few options: From Sunset Beach Club take the M-110 and M-120 buses; from Arroyo de la Miel, the M-112, M-121, M-124, M-125 or M-126 buses.
- Fancy visiting the picturesque village of Mijas and take a ride on their famous donkeys? You’ve got a couple of options: Walk up to the windmill roundabout (15 minutes) and then take the M-112 or M-121 buses which run all year. Note that during the summer months there is a night bus service on this route (M-620). The second option is to take the M-120 bus to Fuengirola (bus stop in front of Best hotel) and then take the connecting bus service up to Mijas.
- Malaga City Centre is a must-visit, especially for culture vultures! A visit to the famous Muelle Uno waterfront is also highly recommended. To get to the centre of Malaga just take the M-110 bus (from outside the hotel) and get off at the last stop. From Arroyo de la Miel or the windmill roundabout, you can take the M-112 bus.
- A visit to the capital of glamour and the jetset, Marbella, is also possible by taking the M-320 bus from just in front of the hotel. Please bear in mind that the travel card only covers part of the journey (as far as Mijas Costa) as Marbella is not part of the consortium that runs the travel card service.

Hi Sid, you have to get on the nº120 bus. I’m afraid I can’t help you with bus times but maybe the reception at the Melia hotel will be able to help you.

Is there a bus from the Malaga airport to the sunset beach hotel in benalmadena ? Is there a schedule ? And what is the price ?
Hi Hélène, I’m afraid the bus service from the airport to Benalmadena was discontinued last year. You will either have to take a taxi or the train to Benalmadena.
Hi, we will pass many days in Fuengerola next spring, around a month. From there we would like to go to Malaga, Grenade, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Mija at differents excursions.
– Can i buy a bus travel card in Fuengerola?
We are close to the train station. Do Renfe offer a train card?
Gerard
What no bus do I need to get from benalmadina to cabopina??
Cheers Neil
Hi Neil, you need to take the 120 bus to Fuengirola and then change at Fuengirola to take the bus that goes to Marbella.
Hi Gerard, it’s best to ask at the train or bus station in Fuengirola.
Can I just purchase a ticket on a bus or do I need a card?
You can purchase tickets directly on the buses Stephen
Can I just pay cash on a ‘one off’ journey from Benalmadena to Malaga and a return fare? We don’t want to be buying a travel card if we don’t need to.
Yes, of course Andrew. Just pay when you get on the bus.

Hi Angela,
I’m afraid there is no longer a bus from the airport to Benalmadena. You can either take the train or a taxi.
Regards,
Justin
Hi! Do you happen to know if there’s some kind of a monthly, unlimited bus card? I work in Fuengirola for 3 months but live in Benalmadena, so I’ll be using the bus for two times a day. It gets quite expensive, even though the travel card is cheaper than bying a ticket every time. Thank you for your help!
Can you please tell me what bus I should take to get from Sunset Beach Club to the Benal Arroya de la Miel railway station? Thank you.
Hi John, You can take the 103 bus. 🙂
Not sure about that one Knut but we’ll certainly look into it for you.
Hi, I need to be in Arroyo de le Miel in 11:20 and leave from Benalmaldena Pueblo.

Hi Justin. Thanks for all the excellent info in this blog! I do have one question about travel in Malaga city. We have the green bus card “Consorio de Transporte Metropolitano” area de Malaga, which we keep loaded up and do use frequently. In Malaga, we always get off at the very last station, but can the green card also be used to board a Malaga city bus? Or do they have their own bus cards we should purchase for touring the city? Thank you!
Hi Joanne,
Thank for your kind comments! As far as I am aware, you can use the green card on all buses in Málaga city. I will check it for you though and make sure.
Regards, Justin
Thanks for the info, Justin. We plan on ordering the Malaga Pass that was posted on your blog, so hopefully we’ll make good use of the city buses to tour the different sites and restaurants. 🙂
Hi Justin,
We will be travelling from Barcelona to Malaga by train and will arrive at the Maria Zambrano Station. Rome2Rio says to walk from Maria Zambrano Station to Malaga Train Station (5 min walk) and take the M110 bus from there straight to the Sunset Beach Club. Strangely, this information is not coming up on Google maps, which we normally rely on for transport options abroad.
Our train arrives at Maria Zambrano Station at approx 10pm.
Is taking the M110 from the train station to the hotel a feasible option or do you reckon it would be better to get a taxi from Maria Zambrano directly to the hotel?
Thank you,
Leanne
Hi Leanne, taking the M110 is a feasible option but it’ll take approximately 1 hour to get to the hotel. A taxi will cost about 35€ but is a lot quicker. I hope that helps.
Regards, Justin

Yes, the M110 takes you very near to the beach. It’s the last stop.
Can I use public transport to travel from Malaga city to Benalmadena plaza de toros
You can Fiona, but you’ll have to change buses at least once.
Can we catch a bus from Benalmádena to Marbella if so where do we catch it
is there any buses that pass near Holiday Hydros im going there in august.
Yes, there are buses which stop nearby.
You’d have to take the M120 bus to Fuengirola and then change for the bus to Marbella.
Hi there, staying with you in a few weeks, just wondering if travelling to Mijas via Fuengirola what stop do we get off in Fuengirola?…you mention in a previous post it’s the Best hotel in Fuengirola…has it changed its name? Will it pass the Flatotel and make a stop there.? Thank you
Hi Cora, you need to get off at the main bus station in Fuengirola. The bus does pass by the Flatotel.
Hello. Is there a bus service please to Caminito del Rey. Best wishes, gerry
Hi Gerry, I think the M-236 service should take you from Málaga to Caminito del Rey. There is also a train service that you can take.
