Staff training here at Sunset Beach Club forms a key part of our Human Resource Management Strategy. Every year, staff from all departments take part in training courses designed to improve their skills and ultimately, to provide a better level of service to our guests.
Last year (2010), Jose Enrique from our Human Resource Department did a great job in organising training for over 30 members of staff. Thanks to the wonders of technology, much of the training was through online courses which made the logistics a little easier. Here’s a quick summary of some of the training that took place:
- Abraham and Laura in our Administration department took part in accounting, cost accounting and pricing strategy training courses.
- The whole of the maintenance team and our IT Manager, Miguel Angel attended a course designed to teach the intricacies of the new TDT (New Digital Television System) here in Spain as well as the maintenance of our Satellite TV system.
- The whole of the Restaurant team took part in English lessons; hopefully you’ll see the benefits of this next time you order a meal at the Oasis Restaurant!
- Chelo (Commercial Department) and Susanna (Leisure Desk) both decided they needed to brush up on their French by taking an online course. This will come in handy in the winter months as we get a lot of Canadian guests staying with us.
- Jesús from our Maintenance team took part in German lessons. All our German guests are encouraged to engage in conversation if you see Jesus….practice makes perfect!
- Inmaculada Pérez from our Housekeeping Department took part in a course designed to prepare staff to become future Head Housekeepers – perhaps a future Head Housekeeper in the making?
- Rubén and Miguel Angel, who work in the kitchens, perfected their culinary skills with an advanced cooking course. Our new daily set menus are hopefully an indication of the quality and standard we are trying to achieve in our Food & Beverage operation; ongoing training helps us achieve this!
That’s just a sample of the training that took place last year. Apart from the direct benefit these training initiatives have on our operation and in the service we provide, they are also a key staff motivation tool; having the opportunity to improve their skills allows staff to advance professionally.
This year, we’ve got lots of great courses planned and the training programme is already underway with the Supermarket staff attending English lessons!
