IMPORTANT UPDATE (Sept 2015)…. This train service has been cancelled until further notice!
Those of you who have visited Benalmadena will be familiar with the small ‘hop on, hop off’ tourist trains which ferry passengers around the Marina and the central area of Arroyo de la Miel. Well, in the next few weeks, the company that runs these trains will be introducing a new service taking tourists and visitors to Benalmadena Pueblo, located in the hills overlooking the coast.
If you’ve never been to Benalmadena Pueblo, this is the perfect opportunity to visit this stunning and picturesque village. The new tourist train service will leaves from the Alay Hotel (approx. 30 minutes walk from Sunset Beach Club) at 9:30am every morning. (more…)

An article in the Irish Independent last friday caught our eye. It seems that travel giant Thomas Cook plans to exit the Irish charter holiday market, a decision – which travel agents are warning – will affect consumers due to a shortage of supply in last minute holiday deals this summer.
Aer Lingus has already scheduled new flights this summer to several sunny destinations, including a flight from Shannon to Malaga; great news for many of our Sunset Beach Club guests who wont have to fly from Cork or Dublin. Expect the Irish carrier to search for further growth opportunities following the Thomas Cook announcement; hopefully with more flight options to Malaga 🙂 (more…)

This week saw the start of a new gastronomic event in MijasTown and La Cala de Mijas: La Ruta del Cuchareo (literally translated as ‘The Spoon Route”).
During the cooler months of winter (January, February and March) locals and visitors will be able to sample a wide selection of tasty local homemade dishes and stews. Many of the bars and restaurants in Mijas and La Cala will be offering a fantastic combination of warm tapa (stew, casserole or rice served in a clay dish) and a drink (beer, wine or soft drink) for just €2 🙂 (more…)

Trips from Benalmadena to Fuengirola included in the “Relax Tour” package
Benalmadena has always been known as a sun and sea destination, attracting visitors from all over Europe in the warmer high season months.
During the quieter winter period, demand and interest for the resort suffers an important drop. The winter months – although offering the warmest and sunniest weather in continental Europe – do not provide the ideal conditions for your typical beach holiday.
That being said, Benalmadena does provide fantastic activities and attractions for visitors looking to enjoy Spanish culture and explore the wonders of our beautiful coastline. The sun still shines and, whilst you may not be able to swim in the sea, day time temperatures in the 18ºC to 22ºC range make for enjoyable and relaxing breaks. (more…)

One of the most popular activities here at Sunset Beach Club is the Spanish Cooking lessons our animation team puts on for our guests every Wednesday.
The star of these cooking lessons? Spain’s most famous and popular dish: The Paella.
There are many recipes and formulas that promise the secret to the ‘Ultimate Paella’; however, the reality is that a Paella can be made with lots of different ingredients allowing the cooks creativity to shine.
If you go to Valencia (Where the paella originated) it’ll look and taste different to the paella you’ll find here on the Costa del Sol. The important thing is that they all taste amazing and make for a delicious and enjoyable meal 🙂 (more…)

This Sunday night sees the arrival of the Three Kings, Gaspar, Melchor and Balthazar. Excitement is the operative word as kids (and some adults) eagerly await the arrival of the Three Kings of Orient bearing gifts for all those who have been good over the past year 🙂
The fun begins a little earlier though, as the Three Wise Men delight crowds in the traditional parades which take place in all the major cities, towns and villages on the afternoon of the 5th January.
Families will be lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the gift-bearing Kings sitting comfortably in their spectacular carriages which slowly make their way through the carefully planned routes. Make sure you take a plastic bag to collect all the sweets which will be thrown in to the crowds from the carriages! (more…)

Málaga’s impressive Automobile Museum is one of our recommended places to visit this Christmas. With a special Christmas programme of events aimed at all the family, visitors will be able to enjoy the history of the automobile together with fashion in a unique and unforgettable experience.
The star of this year’s programme is the presentation of the new collection: Trilogy. Once again, the museum will delight us with its unique take on the evolution of the automobile industry and fashion: An impressive exhibition of models combining society, movies and fashion. Marilyn Monroe in Givenchy, Ava Gardner in Pierre Cardin, Paloma Picasso with Yves Saint Laurent are just some of the amazing displays visitors will be able to see. (more…)

We recently wrote about the great accommodation options we have for larger families with out 1 bedroom (5 pax) and 2 bedroom apartments. Well today we want to tell you about another type of accommodation ideal for couples couples visiting Benalmadena and who don’t require a separate bedroom: Our Studio apartments.
We’ve only got a limited number of these units but their generous open plan layout (no separate bedroom) and sea facing location make them a popular choice. Add to that the fact that they are cheaper than our standard 1 bedroom exterior apartments, you can understand why these Studios don’t stay on the availability list for too long! (more…)
