Sunset Beach Club

Two of our favourite attractions on the Costa del Sol, Selwo Marina Dolphinarium and Selwo Aventura will be opening for the new season today (Friday 24th February 2012).
After a well earned winter break, these popular parks are ready to delight visitors with their unique facilities.
Selwo Marina Dolphinarium, located just minutes away from Sunset Beach Club, will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. Special activities will be planned throughout the season to celebrate, so visiting the park is a must if you are visiting theCosta del Sol 🙂
Selwo Aventura, the wildlife adventure park located near Estepona (Approx. 1 hour drive from Sunset Beach Club) also opens to the public today. In a constant effort to reinvent the visitor experience, Selwo Aventura will be introducing new species and animals to their, already impressive, wildlife family. Here’s a quick list of the new attractions:
- Two new Hippos – Margarita and Manolito (can’t get more Spanish than that!! ) – have been brought to the park in the hope that they’ll be able to add to the parks population with a little Manolito Hippo! The Masai Mara area of the park has been especially prepared to welcome the two Hippos and to make sure they feel at home.
- HyenaTerritoryis one of the new installations which will be introduced this season. This is perfect opportunity to learn more about this roaming carnivore, vital for the African ecosystem.
- The newLionTerritory. Located in the main village area of Selwo Aventura, this new feature will allow visitors to see the King of the Jungle up close!
- The “Reserva de losLagos” area of the park will be the new home of the Sitatunga (don’t worry, I had to look it up too 😉 it’s a type of antelope) another African species.
If you are planning on visiting Sunset Beach Club for a holiday – and especially if you have kids – make sure you include Selwo Marina Dolphinarium and Selwo Aventura on your list of ‘Places to see’, you’ll have a blast!

Reading through our latest reviews on Tripadvisor, I came across a very complementary comment by a guest who recently stayed with us at Sunset Beach Club.
Apart from his very kind words praising our facilities and friendly staff (thank you!), this guest also reminded me of our hotel’s fantastic location as a base to explore other areas and towns on the Costa del Sol. In particular, he made reference to the bus stop just outside the hotel and the fantastic nº120 bus! Yes, we have taxis outside the hotel, but the beauty the 120 bus is that it only costs €1.50 per trip 🙂 (more…)

This coming Sunday (19th February 2012) sees the start of the new season of races at the Costa del Sol Racecourse. This opening day of races kicks off at 11:00am on Sunday morning; it’ll be a busy day on the turf as 65 horses participate in the 5 programmed races.
This new winter/spring season of racing will include five days of competition; this is the calendar of events:
19th February – Races start at 11:00am
26th February – Races start at 11:00am
4th March – Races start at 11:00am
6th April – Races start at 11:00am
13th April – Races start at 4:00pm
We must highlight the race that will be held on the 4th March, The Mijas Cup. This is one of the most important races held on turf and the one with the most prize money – of those that are run in Spain. The winning horse will take home an impressive €43.000 prize; that explains why some of the most important stables from all over the world will be participating 🙂
Horse racing fans who visit the Costa del Sol Racecourse this season will be able to enjoy a wider selection of leisure and entertainment services, complementary to the actual races. The restaurants and other food and beverage outlets have also been renovated for the new season.
Pricing for the racing this season is €5 per person, with children under 18 and seniors able to access the racecourse for free.

David Benito – or Sr. Benito as we all call him – has been heading our Reservations Department for 25 years. He has been an integral part of the team that has seen Sunset Beach Club grow into one of the most successful and highly regarded hotels on the Costa del Sol. However, all good things come to an end and it is now time for Sr. Benito to retire and enjoy a well earned break from the day to day “madness” of our reservations department.
We’d like to take this opportunity to wish Sr. Benito the very best for the future. We’re also delighted to inform you that Armando Martinez, who has been our Reception Manager and Reservations assistant for the past 9 years, will now take up Sr. Benito’s role.
In turn, Silvia Bellido, who has worked on our reception desk for the last 15 years, has been promoted to the position of Deputy Reception Manager.
Those of you who are regular visitors to Sunset Beach Club will, no doubt, already know Armando and Silvia; we are sure you will join us in congratulating them both on their promotions and wish them the best of luck in their new roles.
If any of you wish to contact our Reservations Department, the email address remains the same: booking@sunsetbeachclub.com

From the 17th to the 26th February, Fuengirola will be presenting their latest gastronomic offering to help promote the town’s restaurants and bars: the 1st ‘Cazuela dela Abuela’ (literally translated as Grandma’s Casserole).
During the event, visitors and locals will be able to sample delicious home made stews, like the ones our grandma’s used to prepare! For the very reasonable price of €2, all participating restaurants will serve up a generous helping of warm stew (served in a clay bowl) and a drink; you can choose beer, wine or a soft drink.
Fuengirola continues to experiment and innovate with these original themed events designed to promote the towns gastronomic offering – a perfect example is last years Erotic Tapas Route – There is no doubt that this type of activity helps support the restaurant trade which, during the quiet winter months, can use all the help they can get to fill their establishments.
