Mijas Fair 2011The Mijas Fair starts on the 7th September 2011. This year, the town hall has prepared an amazing programme with activities, music and entertainment which are sure to make Mijas the go-to place for the next few days.

The official programme for the festivities is quite extensive, so we’ve picked out the best parts for you. Here’s what’s in stall for the next 5 days:

Wednesday 7th September, 2011

6 pm – Large procession along the main streets of the town with the typical “Giants” and “Bigheads” (don’t have a clue what we’re talking about? You’ll have to go along for yourself and see!) There will also be floats, animation groups, street performers with large inflatable, musical bands and even a Brazilian Capoeira group of performers. The procession leaves from the entrance of the Town Hall.

10 pm – Official Opening of fairground lighting by the Mayor of Mijas.

11 pm – Election of the Queen of the Feria for2011 inthe official Caseta

Thurday 8th September, 2011 

2 pm – Official opening of the Day Fair which will be held near theParishChurch. Visitors will be able to enjoy the following facilities: Large tents which will house bars, a special children’s educational area, a large stage for all music and shows and there will even be a crèche service to look after the little ones.

6 pm – Marching of musical bands presenting the Patron Saint of Mijas, The Virgen dela Peña, at the Parish Church.

9:30 pm – Procesion of the Virgen dela Peñathrough the streets of Mijas accompanied by various musical bands.

Friday 9th September, 2011

1pm to 8pm – Day Fair with live music and dancing – typically Spanish music!

8pm – Great Children’s party with kids entertainers and small gifts for all children who participate in the party.

12 pm  –  Musical concert by local Málaga pop band, Danza Invisible. (Free Entrance)

Saturday 10th September, 2011 

1:30 pm – Live Flamenco Show in theConstitution Squareby Rafael de Lola and Eva Sedeño.

6pm – Horse exhibition at the Mijas bullring.

12 pm – Concert with various music groups in the Municipal Caseta (Entrance Fee is €5)

Sunday 11th September, 2011

As this is the last day of the fair, all children’s fairground attractions and fun rides will be discounted to €1.50 each.

1 pm to 8 pm – Last chance to enjoy the Day Fair with lots of music, dancing and drinking! You will also witness the election of the Fair’s King of Mambo and Queen of Rumba… fancy your chances?

11 pm – Special comedy night in the Municipal Caseta
